Abstract:
A growing global health concern, mental health disorders significantly affect quality of life and productivity. Contemporary psychiatry mainly focuses on symptom-based classification and management. However, Ayurveda provides a holistic understanding of mental health through the concept of Manas and its disorders, collectively described as Manas Vikara. Ayurveda also highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy mind for normal physiological functions in the body. These disorders arise due to the imbalance of Rajas and Tamas Gunas often in association with Sharirika doshas leading to psychological, behavioral and somatic levels.
