Abstract:
Coccydynia is a chronic painful condition involving the coccyx, usually associated with lower back pain and functional limitation. It commonly results from trauma, prolonged sitting, or degenerative changes in the coccygeal bone. In chronic cases, regular medicines and exercises are often insufficient to resolve the problem. In Ayurveda, such pain-dominant conditions are categorized under Vata Vyadhi, where aggravated Vata Dosha affects the Asthi (bone) and Sandhi (joints) of the sacrococcygeal region. The sacrococcygeal region can be correlated with Trika Pradesha, and persistent pain in this region resembles Trikagraha or Trika Shoola. Agnikarma, a para-surgical procedure described by Acharya Sushruta, is indicated in such Vata-dominant disorders characterized by severe and localized pain.
